What is the first thing that comes to my mind when trying to explain the Paleo diet? Freedom. Freedom from having to count calories. Freedom from disease. Freedom from hunger pains. For pregnant women, those trying to conceive, and those postpartum, the Paleo Diet provides a freedom from extreme mood swings and irritability. It also allows you to lose that stubborn pregnancy weight easier than you ever imagined possible. You have the right to a healthy lifestyle for you and your family.
Sure, this sounds too good to be true and we all know that there is no such thing as a “magic pill,” however; Paleo is probably the closest thing you will ever get to that magic pill. The best part is that it is essentially free and you can start feeling better and making changes this very second!
The Paleo “diet” should not be looked at as a diet, as it is so much more than that. Yes, there are specific dietary practices consistent with Paleo, but the principles behind Paleo reach much further than a simple dietary definition. Paleo includes a diet based on whole, real, nutritionally-dense foods, as well as a lifestyle that encourages proper sleep, movement, and stress reduction.
According to Robb Wolf, one of the leaders in the Paleo movement, “The Paleo diet is the healthiest way you can eat because it is the ONLY nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic! Research in biology, biochemistry, ophthalmology, dermatology and many other disciplines indicate it is our modern diet, full of refined foods, trans-fats and sugar, that is at the root of degenerative diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression and infertility.”
